Breakdown of Marijuana
Marijuana is a plant consistent of many chemical compounds referred to as cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are responsible for the euphoric feeling users have when using marijuana and the most common two-forms of Cannabinoids are THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol ) and CBD. The difference between these two are that THC produces a psychoactive effect on the brain while CBD does not. In many opinions the legal use of marijuana should only entail the use of CBD extracts for medical purposes such as preventing childhood epilepsy. On the other hand THC the more familiar cannabinoid is just used to get high. Now, one might ask if marijuana can be broken down into non harmful cannabinold structures then why is it not legal. Well, the simple answer according to drugabuse.gov is that their have not been enough clinical trials of the drug to determine for certain the harmful and beneficial effects of the drug (Abuse, National Institute on Drugs). Although there are medicines that currently have the compound THC which are called dronabinol and nabilone, used to treat cancer and aids patients, The active ingredient THC has not seen much more medials use past that. Personally I believe that Marijuana as a plant and as a whole should be illegal due to its addictive nature to users and is only truly safe in a medically controlled environment.
